چکیده

Analysis of the effects of deoxycholate and benzalkonium chloride on granule relaxing activity, myofibril and glycerinated fiber responses to ATP, and the sensitivity of these actomyosin-containing systems to relaxing factors have established that it is possible to differentially inactivate intrinsic granule relaxing factor. It is therefore possible to use these agents to treat myofibrils and glycerinated muscle fibers so that they may be used for the assay of muscle-relaxing factor preparations. The destruction of intrinsic relaxing factor can be produced by treating actomyosin with 1 mM deoxycholate or 0.005 per cent benzalkonium chloride for 5 minutes at room temperature.

The Bimodal Nature of Neurovascular Coupling

Neurons, by virtue of their complex and continuously changing signaling roles in brain, must be able to regulate access to energy in order to maintain their ability to communicate meaningful frequency-encoded information. This is accomplished by release of neurotransmitters to astrocytes that in turn signal the vascular system to increase cerebral blood flow (CBF). This process has been termed ...

The Possible Involvement of Nitric Oxide/Endothelium Derived Relaxing Factor in Atropine-Induced Vasorelaxation

Atropine has been used to block cholinergic neurotransmission in basic research. Large doses of atropine cause vasodilation of the blood vessels in the skin. This effect is apparently unconnected with the antimuscarinic activity of atropine and seems to be due to a direct action on the blood vessels. It has been suggested that atropine blocks muscarinic receptors at low doses and it induces th...

An examination of the effects of push and pull factors on Iranian national parks: Boujagh National Park, Iran

This article analyses the push and pull factors that bring visitors to the Iranian national parks. The study used a structured questionnaire to collect data on these factors and the socio-demographic profile of the visitors. Survey conducted in Boujagh National Park, an area of 3177 hectares located in the north of the Iran, produced 400 questionnaires. The factor analysis identified four push ...

The Role of Calcium in the Adenosine Triphosphatase Activity of Myofibrils and in the Mechanism of the Relaxing Factor System of Muscle*

Several factors tend to create the impression that the removal of Ca from the myofibrils plays an important role in the mechanism of relaxation. Among these factors are the inhibition of the activity of the relaxing factor system of muscle by Ca (2) ; the similarity between the effect of ethylenediaminetetraacetate and the relaxing factor system in producing inhibition of myofibrillar adenosine...
